IFAM Dresden
For many years, Fraunhofer IFAM has been involved in numerous R & D projects in the innovative field of H2 production (AMORPHEL, Green-H2, AEL3D, ELYntegration).] Two key points are considered in the development of active catalysts: Material composition ("alloy design") and electrode topography and geometry.
The electrochemical and structural evaluation of the materials is carried out in state-of-the-art laboratories and extends to endurance tests in an industrial 40 KW electrolyzer (20 cells, individual electrode area 0.25 m²) under realistic operating conditions. In addition to the electrochemical work, powder metallurgical production processes are developed at the Fraunhofer IFAM and sintering furnaces are available up to pilot plant scale.
In the ENDURE consortium, IFAM is represented by Christian Bernäcker:
Since 2020 Group Manager Electrochemical Technology, Fraunhofer IFAM, Dresden
2011 - 2020 Research fellow, Fraunhofer IFAM, Dresden
2011 Doctorate: Chemistry, University of Würzburg, 2011, “Physical Properties of Chromophore Functionalized Gold Nanoparticles”
Fields of activity:
Catalyst development for electrochemical applications (mainly alkaline)
Transfer of catalyst systems to an industrial production process
Development of new electrochemical applications
